Diaconate - History
Before World War II, Liptovský Mikuláš had become the center of the Slovak Evangelical diocanate.
As the result of the request by the association Dobrodej, Mária Kmeťová, the first Slovak deaconess,
from the German diocanate Motherhood House came on September 22, 1922. The seat of the Motherhood House
of the Slovak Evangelical deaconesses originated in 1932, located in Ballov`s house - Betánia.
From this place, sisters deaconesses went to the orphanages in Modra, Myjava, to the almshouses in Turčiansky St. Martin,
Bardejov and Prešov. In 1948 the First Czecho - Slovak Conference of Diocanate took place in Liptovský Mikuláš.
All the Evangelical Motherhood houses from the former Czechoslovak republic participated
(three Motherhood houses form Slovakia - Liptovský Mikuláš, Bratislava, Stará Turá).
In 1956, the Slovak Evangelical diocanate ceased to exist as the result of the decision by the communist regime.
The work of diocanate in Liptovský Mikuláš was renewed in 1998.
